Powderham Castle Wedding
POWDERHAM CASTLE, KENTON, EXETER EX6 8JQ
MICHAEL AND CIARA | JULY 2021
Powderham Castle dates back to the late 14th century and is the seat of the Courtenay family, Earls of Devon. A stunning venue in every sense the castle oozes heritage and history and provided a beautiful backdrop for Michael and Ciaras wedding which they had planned in just 12 weeks. The bridal suite looked over the grounds where the deer were grazing. The weather had been terrible and it looked like this outdoor ceremony may be a very wet one but the clouds parted and the sun shone in time for Ciaras father to proudly walk her around the garden up to the Rose Terrace for the marriage ceremony. The couple also had a wine box ceremony which is a non-religious wedding ritual in which a bottle of wine is enclosed in a box so that it can be opened by a couple at a later date in testing times. The couple both hammer the box shut tight as part of the ceremony.
Following drinks and canapes on the lawn the wedding breakfast took place in the Music Room which comfortably housed 80 guests with room to spare. The first dance followed outside on the Rose Terrace where the jazz band and disco had setup for the night. And to finish the day off a fish and chip rolled up at 8.30 to soak up the days over indulgences.
